Chris Weidman hurt and out of UFC 199

 

Reports are floating around that Chris Weidman is injured and will not be fighting Luke Rockhold at UFC 199.  The exact injury isn’t out yet but rumors are he broke his hand.  Though this is all preliminary and probably comes from someone’s cousin’s girlfriend’s best friend’s hairdresser buuuuuuut let’s mindlessly speculate anyways.  No word on the replacement yet, if one will even be found, but Jacare just came off a dominant win, took no damage, and could be ready for Rockhold (in theory).  The UFC has roughly 3 weeks to find a fill in.

 

Weidman vs Rockhold was a rematch of their FOTY candidate from last December and it sucks this fight won’t happen.  Lucky for the UFC, the card is still stacked, with Dominick Cruz vs Urijah Faber already slated as a semi-main event and talent like BJ Penn, Max Holloway, Dan Henderson, and Hector Lombard all already fighting.  In that sense, the UFC doesn’t need to find a replacement, as the show should draw well as is.  Nonetheless, Rockhold rematching Jacare would be intriguing.  The first time they fought, Rockhold beat Jacare to win the Strikeforce Middleweight title and so Jacare looking for revenge in a similar manner would be interesting.  It wouldn’t be as big of a fight as Weidman but it would still be a pretty big fight.
