A shocked world learned today that New York Governor Cuomo has signed into law a bill that undoes the legislation legalizing MMA.
Previously expecting the sport’s legality to be a foregone conclusion, the news is a devastating blow to the UFC and MMA in general.
Rather than honoring the will of the people, Governor Cuomo instead trusted the guidance of panel of medical experts and the advocacy group Moms Made Angry.
“I had no choice,” said the governor. “The evidence is clear that the sport is corrupting to our youth and is one step away from fights to the death.”
Long time political experts admitted they were blind sided by the move. After years of lobbying by the UFC and a vigorous public debate, fans thought for sure that the time had come for the sport to arrive in The Big Apple, with recent mega shows confirming the sport’s arrival.
Focus now shifts towards exactly what the UFC can do to once again legalize cage fighting in the largest market in America.
Obviously the company is reeling, with internal plans considered a mess.
Other talked about plans include a concerted effort to impeach the governor as well as an online petition to President Trump.
Leaving no doubt as to his thoughts on the news, UFC President Dana White was not happy at all.
“Shut the fuck up. This isn’t fucking funny. April 1st will forever be a dark day in the history of the UFC.”
